The Rat Pack

They were the coolest cats of all time...Frank, Sammy, Dean, Joey & Peter better known as The Rat Pack! who ruled Las Vegas and Hollywood during the 1950's-1960's.

The Rat Pack performed in Las Vegas and were instrumental for its rise as a popular entertainment destination. They played an important role in the desegregation of Las Vegas hotels and casinos in the early 1960s. Sinatra and the others would refuse to play in or patronize those establishments that would not give full service to black entertainers, including Davis. Once Rat Pack appearances became popular and the subject of media attention, the Las Vegas properties were forced to abandon segregation-based policies. Sinatra and friends had no idea this band of five would make entertainment history. The group was remarkable for its upbeat entertainment style and smooth musical and comedy routines, many of which were ad-libbed. Davis said when Sinatra called the initial gathering of the Rat Pack, U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower, French President Charles de Gaulle, and Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev were planning a Paris Summit Conference. Not to be outdone, Sinatra observed, "We'll have our own little Summit meeting. The Vegas Summit did not draw diplomats, but it did draw high rollers, VIPs, celebrities, and entertainment buffs, who responded by the thousands.

Often, when one of the members was scheduled to give a performance, the rest of the Pack would show up for an impromptu show, causingmuch excitement among audiences, resulting in return visits. They sold out almost all of their appearances, and people would come pouring into Las Vegas, sometimes sleeping in cars and hotel lobbies when they could not find rooms, just to be part of the Rat Pack entertainment experience. The marquees of the hotels at which they were performing as individuals would read, for example, "DEAN MARTIN - MAYBE FRANK - MAYBE SAMMY" as seen on a Sands Hotel sign

Michael Jackson

29th August 1958 – 25th June 2009

Referred to as the King of Pop, Jackson is recognized as the most successful entertainer of all time, and one of the most influential. His contributions to music, dance and fashion and a much publicized personal life, made him a global figure in popular culture for over four decades.

Alongside his brothers, Jackson made his debut as lead singer and youngest member of The Jackson 5 in 1964. He began his solo career in 1971. His1982 album Thriller remains the best-selling album ever, with Off the Wall (1979), Bad (1987), Dangerous (1991) and History (1995) among the world's best-selling albums ever. He is credited with having elevated the music video from mere promotional tool into an art form: his videos for Billie Jean, Beat It and Thriller made him the first African American artist to amass a strong crossover following on MTV. Jackson popularized a number of physically complicated dance techniques, such as the robot and the moonwalk. His distinctive musical, vocal style and choreography are credited with having transcended generational, racial and cultural barriers.

Jackson is one of the few artists inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice. Other achievements include 15 Grammy Awards (including the Living Legend Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award), 17 number one singles in the US (including four as a member of the Jackson 5), and estimated world sales of over 750 million records making him the best-selling recording artists ever.

Jackson's death prompted an immense surge in album sales. He became the best-selling artist of 2009 in both the U.S. (more than 8.2 million units) and in the world as a whole he became the first-ever artist in the U.S. to have four of the top 20 best-selling albums in a single year and he posthumously sold 29 million albums, including an unprecedented eight of the top 25 best-selling albums, worldwide

Laurel and Hardy

The most popular comedy teams of the early to mid Classical Hollywood era of American cinema. Composed of thin, English-born Stan Laurel (1890–1965) and heavy, American-born Oliver Hardy (1892–1957) they became well known during the late 1920s and the 1930s for their work in motion pictures and also appeared on stage throughout America and Europe.

The two comedians first worked together on the silent film The Lucky Dog. After a period appearing separately in several short films for the Hal Roach studio during the 1920s, they began appearing in movie shorts together in 1926. Laurel and Hardy officially became a team the following year, and soon became Hal Roach's most lucrative stars. Among their most popular and successful films were the features Sons of the Desert (1933), Way Out West (1937), and Block-Heads (1938) and the shorts Big Business (1929), Liberty (1929), and their Academy Award–winning short, The Music Box (1932).

The pair left the Roach studio in 1940, then appeared in eight "B" comedies for 20th Century Fox and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer from 1941 to 1944. From 1945 to 1950 they did not appear on film and concentrated on their stage show. They made their last film, Atoll K, in France in 1950 and 1951 before retiring from the screen. In total they appeared together in 106 films. They starred in 40 short sound films, 32 short silent films and 23 full length feature films, and in the remaining 11 films made guest or cameo appearances.

This wonderful display piece comprises of a beautifully signed vintage blue album page signed in ink by both, mounted with a large black and white photo and the mount board has the images of their trade mark bowler hats cut into it along with their names…
